Gwinnett Aquatics Suit Guidelines
One of the best things about swimming is that the equipment and uniforms are simple and relatively cheap. At least at the beginning. And that's the way we like it. As with our training and our competition guidelines we want our younger swimmers to keep things simple, including with their suits. New and young swimmers don't need anything more than a tight fitting team suit and possibly a cap and goggles to race at meets. This keeps the focus rightly on improving technique and fitness in the early years of their career. It also saves some milestones, like moving up training groups, using new equipment, and starting to use performance swimsuits for them to look forward to later in their career. When a swimmers is older and more advanced in their training they may begin to use some more expensive (and VERY short-lived!) suits at select meets. The move to these performance suits should not be made until the swimmer has more fully developed both physically and athletically to take advantage of them.

Below is a description of the various approved suits for Gwinnett Aquatics.

Suit Types
We are grouping suits into two categories. Competition suit and Performance suit.

Competition Suit:  All athletes should have a basic competition suit. These suits should be TYR brand with the Gwinnett Aquatics logo. TYR is our team suit company and they provide outfitting support to our coaches and national level swimmers. It is therefore important that our team members compete in TYR team suits. Team suits are sold through our local partner, Reddiset - you can use that link to go straight to our online swim shop and order those.

Performance Suit:  It may be appropriate for some athletes to have a “Performance” level suit at some competitions. These suits should preferably be TYR brand and may come in different colors. It's possible that some athletes will be more comfortable in other brand suits but should try out the TYR suits first. The options are listed below with comments about which suit level is appropriate for each athlete.  If you have any questions please ask your coaches for guidance. These suits also require quite a bit more care if you want to use them for more than one meet.

Suit Guidelines By Age Group
12&Under athletes:
·Should have one Team Competition suit which can be used at ALL meets.
·10Us should not wear a performance suit to any meet. If a suit has a FINA stamp, it is a performance suit.

13-14 athletes:
·Should have one Team Competition suit which can be used at most or all meets.
·13-14 swimmers with A times may have an entry-level Performance suit (TYR Fusion2 brief, jammer or classic, but NOT a kneeskin) to wear only at meets approved by their coach.
·State-qualified 13-14 year old athletes may have a mid-level Performance suit including knee skins to wear only at meets approved by their coach. (TYR Tresher)

15 and older athletes:
·Should have one Team Competition suit which can be used at most or all meets.
·All 15 and older swimmers may have any Performance suit to wear only at meets approved by their coach.  It is recommended however that newer and more developmental 15 and over athletes, just like younger athletes, wait until they reach one of the higher levels of competition and then start with lower level suits until such time that their coach ok’s them moving to a higher level suit.
